I am not a blogger. This is not what I do. I don’t even do
Twitter, mainly because I love a complex sentence too much to condense my pointless
observations into 140 characters. I haven’t kept a diary since I was seventeen
and my Facebook statuses tend to be about random 80s movies and songs. This is
so not me.
But for some reason some of my friends seem to think more
people than just them should be subjected to my rants, pithy observations and
inane ramblings. This may be a reflection upon them and their attitude towards
the general public at large more than my actual ability to entertain through
words.
So here it is. My blog. The main questions are: why are you
starting a blog? I keep asking myself this. What is it actually for? My life is
not especially thrilling, I have no exciting hobbies and I tend to do very much
the same thing week in, week out: work, bake, read, see a film, drink wine.
God, I don’t even paint my nails in new and exciting ways.
So why?
I think the main reason is for my own entertainment value. I
briefly flirted with the idea of joining Twitter for the laugh and then didn’t.
My aim with that was to try and get as many followers as possible in whatever
way possible, simply to keep myself amused. So I suppose this is to amuse
myself as well.
Also there are certain goals I’ve set for myself this year
and perhaps seeing them written down in a place where other people can actually
check upon my progress might make me more likely to stick to them and actually
achieve something this year. You never know.
I’m intending to add posts which review books I’ve read,
films I’ve seen and songs I’ve heard, but I will also shove in the odd ramble
and musing, as well as updates on how I’m doing with the goals I’ve set this
year. There are also some themes I know some people want me to include –
Farmyard Fridays may finally go past the conceptual stage.
I’ll keep you (blog) posted.
